Ritual
“Jewish ritual may be characterized as the art of significant forms in time, as architecture of time.”
-Abraham Joshua Heschel
As a Jewish ritualist, I draw from the well of my wise ancestors and sacred text to create and hold space for the marking of time. Rituals mark transitions, moments of newness, cycles in the year, and holy remembering as a way of honoring our individual and collective experiences.
I aim to create ritual that invites connection to self, to others and to the divine or all that is, reminding us that our very being is inherently sacred. I work in collaboration with those involved, with the intention of meeting people where they are at, bringing their unique essence into the creative process and design. I lead rituals that are embodied and rooted in our senses and seasonal settings.
I am particularly interested in holding space for Jews who are committed to Palestinian liberation, queer and trans liberation and the abolition of white supremacy.
Examples of Ritual Work:
Ritual design and leading for a variety of chags (holidays)
Baby namings
Grief Rituals
Adult namings (for chosen Hebrew names)
Co-creative rituals to mark a significant moment in your life (job changes, moving, grieving a loved one, etc)

“
Em leads beautiful rituals based in the Jewish values that our world so desperately needs at this moment. In person, I have had the opportunity to engage in ritual they've led to create deep and meaningful grounding in the importance of Palestinian liberation. Em has also overcome the monumental task of making ritual powerful in virtual space, including in Never Again Action spaces. In doing so, they have beautifully tied Jewish ritual to migrant justice. When our movement went through a difficult moment where one of our members passed away, I turned to Em first to think through how to hold that moment with care. They suggested creative ways to practice ritual that truly and perfectly honored the memory of our friend, even though we had to do so over Zoom. I am excited for others to access their knowledge, too.”

“
Em’s ritual leadership has changed my life. They have shown me what a truly justice-centered, earth-centered, community-centered Jewish practice can be. They have been such a strong and steadfast support in my spiritual journey, it’s hard to put into words what an influence and inspiration they have been / are to me. One of many powerful examples: they facilitated a Hebrew naming ceremony for me—I never received a Hebrew name as a child, and I realized (thanks to Em’s beautiful baby-naming ritual work) that I yearned for one. Em was so loving, caring, responsive, creative, generous and wise in their planning and holding of this transformative experience. They listened deeply to my vision, and called in the most perfect prayers and songs (including an absolutely stunning song they wrote) to uplift and meet my heart’s desires. My inner children, my inner parents, my core self alike felt so held, seen, and celebrated. It was a mystical threshold I will never forget, and I am forever grateful.”
